AFM R-Control is one of the most established SIP manufacturers in the North American market, with a product history that predates many of their current competitors. Their product line is focused on EPS core panels. Darryl Simpson has specified AFM R-Control panels on residential projects where their product quality and technical documentation depth are relevant.

What AFM R-Control does well

Documentation and technical depth. AFM R-Control has some of the most extensive technical documentation available in the SIP market — structural testing data, fire testing documentation, and installation guides that are thorough and professionally maintained. For projects where documentation depth matters — government projects, projects with demanding engineers, or projects where the building department requires extensive technical documentation — AFM R-Control’s documentation library is a genuine asset.

Established track record. AFM R-Control’s longevity in the market means there is a substantial history of installed projects against which their product performance can be evaluated. Long-term performance data on R-Control panels in completed projects is more available than for newer manufacturers.

EPS quality consistency. AFM R-Control’s EPS foam sourcing and quality control are well-established. Their EPS meets or exceeds ASTM C578 Type II requirements, and their production quality control history is solid.

Where AFM R-Control has limitations

Product line evolution. AFM R-Control’s product line is focused on EPS panels; polyurethane and specialty configurations are less developed than specialty-focused manufacturers. For applications requiring polyurethane core or specialty facing, other manufacturers may have more developed offerings.

Lead times and capacity. AFM R-Control’s production capacity is sized to their established market; order lead times during peak season can be a constraint. Confirming current lead times before finalizing project schedules is always the correct approach.

Best fit for AFM R-Control panels

Residential and commercial EPS panel applications where documentation depth, technical support quality, and established track record are primary selection criteria. Projects where the engineer or building department has higher-than-typical documentation requirements. Less appropriate for polyurethane or specialty applications where other manufacturers have stronger product development.
