Permatherm SIP Panels: Independent Review

National service — available in all 50 states • 678-799-4389

Permatherm is a SIP manufacturer with particular strength in specialty and commercial applications — cold storage, food processing, and non-standard panel configurations. Darryl Simpson has specified Permatherm panels on commercial projects where their specialty capabilities are the relevant differentiator from standard residential-focused manufacturers.

What Permatherm does well

Cold storage and temperature-controlled applications. Permatherm has significant experience and capability in the cold storage and food processing SIP market. Their polyurethane core panel offerings for temperature-controlled applications are well-developed, and their technical support staff have cold storage-specific expertise that many residential-focused manufacturers lack.

Specialty facing options. Permatherm offers a broader range of interior facing options than standard manufacturers — including FRP (fiberglass-reinforced plastic) and other cleanable interior surfaces appropriate for food processing and medical applications. This specialty capability addresses applications that standard OSB-faced panels don’t serve.

Custom configuration capability. For non-standard panel configurations, Permatherm has more experience and production flexibility than manufacturers whose business is built around standard residential product runs. Custom thickness, custom facing combinations, and non-standard dimensions are more straightforward for Permatherm to produce than for production-focused residential manufacturers.

Where Permatherm has limitations

Standard residential pricing. Permatherm’s specialty focus means their standard residential panel pricing may be less competitive than manufacturers who have optimized production for high-volume standard configurations. For a straightforward residential EPS panel specification, a residential-focused manufacturer will often be more cost-competitive.

Geographic reach for residential markets. Permatherm’s production geography and distribution infrastructure may not be as cost-effective for residential projects in all regions as manufacturers with larger national distribution networks.

Best fit for Permatherm panels

Commercial cold storage, food processing, medical, and specialty applications where non-standard facing, polyurethane core, or custom configuration capability is required. Projects where Permatherm’s specialty technical expertise adds more value than the cost savings of a standard residential manufacturer.
